I’m Derek Johnston, and I’m a media academic currently based at Queen’s University, Belfast. My academic research includes work on the Gothic, folk horror, science fiction, and the uses of the past in the media. This also ties in to my teaching.
This site is primarily concerned with collecting together the links to my research and presenting it in a hopefully easy-to-use manner. Like many academics, I have a research profile at my current university (and you can see that at https://pure.qub.ac.uk/en/persons/derek-johnston), but that system does not collect all of the types of research and research communication that I do. It’s also very focused on the specific requirements of the university and other academic interests. This site allows me to approach things a little differently, as well as incorporating other aspects of my research.
